In 1943, Dr. Henry A. Murray of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services – predecessor of the CIA) predicted Hitler’s suicide in the face of Germany’s defeat. His report was aimed at better understanding Hitler, and how to deal with him. Data was collected from second hand sources. Murray labeled Hitler’s personality as ‘counteractive narcism’ whose characteristics included holding grudges, excessive demand for attention, persistence in the face of defeat, self-trust and the inability to take a joke. Murray also says that Hitler had nightmares that were ‘suggestive of homosexual panic’.
